Those Dvico TViX players ("streamers") are quite popular, and play HD and some/all BD.
See http://www.tvix.co.kr/eng/ for products.

The vendor recommends Tvixie (http://www.tvixie.com/) but -- that guy can't do TV series
seasons/episodes at all, and its movie support is lacking; far cry from what MCM can
do in terms of pulling in metadata.

I realize this is an old request, but I can't make anything work without specs (and
a quick Google search didn't reveal any.)

Indeed not new :-) 
The TViX players, as far as I can tell, use pre-rendered graphic files to hold the
metadata. Much like what you can find here: http://www.tvixie.com/templates.php
You render a JPG and put it in the folder as tvix.jpg .

I don't know how popular these streamers are by now - I suspect other brands are now
leading the pack.

(btw kudos for adding support for MB3!)
