Support DVD ordered vs. TV aired ordered episodes #825

Open psouza4 opened 9 years ago

Originally reported on Google Code with ID 826

Some television shows on DVD have the episodes ordered differently to aired order.

E.g.
http://thetvdb.com/?tab=episode&seriesid=76385&seasonid=10285&id=192636&lid=7

In this case the aired episode #10 is DVD episode #22, and DVD episode #10 is aired
episode #11.

I rip my DVD collection to MKV files using MakeMKV.
MakeMKV creates one file per episode, and names them in the DVD order.

E.g.
t00_Married_With_Children_-_Season_3_(Disc_1).mkv
title01.mkv
title02.mkv
etc.

I would like the ability to easily rename these files to match the correct aired episode.

- Enter DVD rename mode.
- Enter TTVDB ID for show.
- Point to a directory. E.g. the rip output directory.
- Enter the "file name to DVD episode number numeric offset" number. E.g. for DVD 1
(episode 1 to 7) enter 1 (0 + 1 = 1), e.g. for DVD 2 (episode 8 to 15) enter 8 (0 +
8 = 8).
- Map the file name to the correct DVD order show on TTVDB.
- Remap the DVD order file to the aired order file.
- Rename the file. E.g. title07 -> Foo - S01E03 - Bar.mkv

Once files are properly renamed there is no need to rename them again.

I agree that adding the ability to sort by dvd from thetvdb in MCM would be a great
new feature. My problem is the TV show Happy Endings. The show was aired out of order
so the story gets out of order when re watching the episodes sorted by air date. Firefly
is another example of a network airing the show out of the storyline's correct order.
I would have starred this ticket but felt I should clarify I'm looking for the option
to sort by DVD order and not necessarily rename the files to match the Air Date.

This is the only problem I've run into so far using MCM so far. Overall an outstanding
piece of software.

I would like to add my vote for this feature!

There are many shows where the DVD order is not just different but where the aired
order breaks the plot!

Farscape is a key example.

An additional reason to have this feature is that the various online databases often
incorrectly list "production order" as "aired order".\
This results in completely insane listings e.g. Batman the Animated Series even have
multi-part episodes in the wrong order.

Firefly is another example. Please make this a thing!

Stargate SG-1 Season 1. The Pilot on the dvd is combined into one episode where it actually
aired as 2 different episodes so is listed at episode 1 and 2 so it throws the rest
of the season off.

Definitely need this feature! Should be a simple as adding an alternate fetch from
tvdb menu item with just one different parameter to the api

I would also like to request this feature be added. Looks like theTVDB.com totally supports
it to. http://thetvdb.com/wiki/index.php?title=Programmers_API#File_Structure

I would also like to request this feature (it has also been requested more than once
on the forums).
There are several shows where the DVD order is essential to following the show.

In addition to the above,. there's "Batman the Animated Series" and "Doctor Who 2005",
where the DVD's have the specials inserted into the series in the correct order, while
the TV order is totally wrong.

I too would like to see this added as a feature. There are many series on TVDB.com
that the moderators have locked in a weird order on the aired side but are correct
on the DVD order side... It would be a great help to not have to deal with those issues...

Thanks Pete!!

I too would like to have this very much. I don't know why it is so low priority when
tons of other features are being added, many of which have little to do with metadata.

Metabrowser has supported this feature for quite some time and I have been thinking
of buying it, but since I am already using MCM premium, I would prefer to stick with
it. MCM really is a great product but this is long-overdue to be implemented.

I see how this isn't a MAJOR issue. But it is enough of an issue for some (me) that
I'm quite likely going to go back to MetaBrowser just for it, even though I just purchased
MCM in October. I really hope that the feature can at least be entertained.

There are incresing shows that needs the DVD or ABSOLUTE order..
you can implement an additional "(force)" in the fetch menu, with "thetvdb DVDorder"..

Yes please.

As a work around I have posted a "How to" in the Guides Forum "Renaming files from DVD order to Aired order" (here).
