As a specific solution to #67 users can ensure that the data to be opened by excel is in the ISO 8601 format. There are a variety of similar formats under this standard

Good
- YYYY-MM-DD
- YYYYMMDD
Bad
- YYMMDD
- DDMMYY
- DDMMYY

Excel will also work well with YYYY/MM/DD
