Ubuntu 16.04, wine-1.9.12, airwave_1.3.2-1_amd64. Renoise 3.1.0 (64 bit) and 64 bit wine-prefix.
I use SQ8L as a VST-instrument and Arguru Stardust as a VST-effect, but it doesn't seem to matter. I've tried other VST-instruments and -effects with the same error (as long as they use Airwave bridge).
Open Renoise.
Press F7, load SQ8L into the first slot.
Press F1, add Stardust into the effect chain.
Now you can either:
Delete Stardust, then delete SQ8L and get an error.
File -> New Song, hit "No" and get an error.
Error as in: "Fatal VST Plugin Error", "Ouch. The VST plugin '-: SQ8L (from -)' crashed in VST event/function: 'Dispatch', Thread: 'GUI'."
As far as I can tell, besides the error-reporting, things still works though.
WhenI run windows-version of Renoise 3.1.0 in wine (64-bit) and do the same procedure, the error doesn't happen.
Maybe a separate issue, but I also discovered that the mouse pointer disappears when hovering over the Stardust-window. Strange. Not happening when running Renoise from wine either.
