Reading dicoms directly? #109

Most of our directories are folders with a lot of dicoms instead of tarballs, so it might be good, if we could read them directly (or create tars if possible)?

Do you have a reason for keep them stored individually (is something accessing it this way)? If not, putting them in a compressed tarball can make your sysadmin happier ;-)
