Sync with TT-RSS #128

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Great job, one of the best clients around. Fast and nice looking.
What I would like to have is a synchronization with Tiny Tiny RSS, a self
hosted alternative to Google Reader. They have a JSON API and Liferea has
integrated it. More info on http://tt-rss.org.
I could maybe provide a (big) patch for it, but unfortunately skimming though
the code I see lots of comments in Russian and I don't speak it at all :/
Thanks

Google reader is closing now, will this be unfrozen and implemented?

I second this a killer feature! Do you plan to add this?

As long as we are thinking about whether to make synchronization with TT-RSS.

This is exactly what ex-Google Reader users need now.

Did you know that the tt-rss is a server-side application?

Original comment by egor.shi...@gmail.com on 20 Mar 2013 at 4:25

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
I did. I am using it now.

Since internet access is not always available every second of the day, you need
to have an offline RSS reader (like QuiteRSS) to cache RSS articles for later
offline reading.

Syncing with TT-RSS would be a killer feature for QuiteRSS to have.

Actually in any of the discussion about alternatives to Google reader there are
dozens of people claiming they switched to self-hosted tt-rss. I see really big
opportunity in there to differentiate from the crowd.

TT-RSS is a great alternative, there are even 2 alternatives that are based on
it: yanobs reader (free) and privateoss (you have to pay), the problem is that
not everyone has money to maintain a server to host TT-RSS... but there is the
Digg API(on construction) and Normandy(from feedly) that may be the options to
synchronize... anyway thanks for this Reader, I discovered it yesterday and I
totally liked it (Y)

I have also looked at TT-RSS. I would use TT-RSS if there was an RSS desktop
client that could sync with TT-RSS. Currently I am using rssowl b/c it had
google reader syncing but now that google reader is going away, i'm back to the
drawing board.

If quiterss would add syncing to a main online rss reader (TT-RSS, feedly,
etc), i would switch in a heartbeat.

I've been aware of some new systems and her's what I've got:
Inoreader:really complete, but i don´t know if they have an API,+social
Feedly: has opened its API recently
Reedah: deep syncronization, mark/unmarked items from Google Reader, AND works
with every app that use to synch with Google Reader Before, so if you guys have
been working to sync with Greader, maybe this can be and option
Digg doesn´t open even its beta yet, hope there are news about synchronization
soon, greetings!

please do this asap...TT-RSS is an oustanding backend for RSS but their UI is
rather cumbersome and at times very laggy...so if you offered support for this
it would probably bring in more users...like me.

Any update on this? Synchronisation with Tiny Tiny RSS would be a really great
feature for quite-rss.

I absolutely love QuiteRSS and the developers have done an awesome job, but I
agree not having sync capabilities is a real downer.

Fortunately, it seems that while TT-RSS support has languished, the developers
are working hard at implementing a sync capability with OwnCloud News, a more
user-friendly alternative to TT-RSS:
https://code.google.com/p/quite-rss/issues/detail?id=471&colspec=ID%20Stars%20Ty
pe%20Status%20Priority%20Owner%20Summary%20Modified

OwnCloud News already has open source iOS and Android clients, so it will soon
be possible to host and sync your own version of Google Reader to a client on
all major software platforms—the QuiteRSS developers are doing really awesome
work on this.

Thanks for the information! Synchronization with OwnCloud News could be a nice
alternative to Tiny Tiny RSS.

But I couldn't find any confirmation of the developers that they are working on
that feature, not even on the link you provided.
Anyway, I'll keep a close look on the changelog of quite-rss in the future.
