Some species of Parathelypteris sensu PPG I were resolved among members of Coryphopteris and were transferred to that genus (Fawcett and Smith 2021), while others, including the type species, A. glanduligera, resolved with the Amauropelta clade and were transferred to Amauropelta by Y.H. Chang (Kuo et al. 2019). This circumscription was adopted by Fawcett and Smith (2021), who recognized four subgenera within Amauropelta.

Alternatively, the small clade of six species corresponding to Amauropelta subg. Parathelypteris S.E. Fawc. & A. R. Sm. could be recognized at genus rank and circumscribed to include only those six species.
