stupid question though: is it really necessary to run that docker? zabbix can't contact the box directly via proxy?

Thanks for your question, @Mfgrolf. Of course it's possible. If you rebuild the steps form the Dockerfile in your native environment, you can call the php file by the send script in a cronjob for example.
