Where We Breathe Iteration 1.0 #60

Closed mmnoo closed 9 years ago

Hi Guys,

Just cleaning things up and uploading where the code is today to the dev site.

Notable changes:

Questions/comments:

mmnoo commented 10 years ago

Also, our issues section is threatening to become unmanageble.

Two things I am thinking will help:

Thanks!

mmnoo commented 10 years ago

Also, will need to sign up for new accounts on the dev site. When you do, you will hopefully see the welcome tour.

jywarren commented 10 years ago

shamelessly self-promotional

assuredly not!

Re: issues, I've created a "laundry list" one at #66, so for anything small, we can just add them there. Melissa - your call if you'd prefer them in the body of the issue, rather than on the external page. We can use checkboxes!

I'll go in and see about cleaning out old issues. Let's make sense of this!

OK, i did some good cleanup on issues, often creating more focused issues and closing older, broader ones.

Melissa - can you go through the un-milestoned issues and close any you're comfortable with, and I'll re-assign the remainder? https://github.com/publiclab/wherewebreathe/issues?q=is%3Aopen+is%3Aissue+no%3Amilestone

Looking more reasonable now, no?

mmnoo commented 10 years ago

Yup!

I have finished tying up most of the listed loose ends for Phase I/the Beta Implementation stage of this project, which you can see on the dev site.

One last thing I am about to do is add login functionality to the registration page that users get confronted with when they try to access member-only areas. (So that 'you need to login to do that' page, not the front page, would have a registration form and a login form - for less clickity clicking)

I have about 35 unworked hours left for this phase, so if there were other tweaks you guys want made in the next week or so, there is time for it, otherwise I am happy to wait for the Phase I adendum to formulate.

I also should let you all know, that I will be offline for the first week of September.

The site looks amazing and its an absolute pleasure to work with you. I really appreciate all the thoughtfulness you've brought to the implementation on top of your technical prowess.

We have been working through a bunch of issues relating to privacy/forum/question stacking etc and doing this offline. Sorry for the radio silence on our part. We've resolved most of the issues but just have a couple more things to get together before we figure out the last 30-ish hours and the addendum and and and... we'll be back in touch soon!

Yes, really looking good. Do you think it's feasible to start working on forums system now -- perhaps

  1. displaying 4 graphs at a time
  2. enabling people to post a comment below the graphs, and for others to reply to each comment in threads?

Pls. tell me if you think that's a feasible/reasonable next step, or if you think we should keep working on design refinements and tweaks?

Thanks again, this looks rad.

mmnoo commented 10 years ago

Thanks! You guys are very easy to work with, so its been a pleasure for me too!

I am really enjoying freelancing, so please dont hesitate to recommend me to your collegues for web dev or GIS if the opportunity arises. (I will also be in the UK in-person next spring if that matters).

@jywarren Re forums, I want to say yes, but do think we need to refine the design a bit more. Hashing out designs conceptually in discussion and drawings is cheaper than working through ideas in code, so I think we should resist coding prematurely on this one. I'll post my forum specific comments in issue #49

I am perfectly happy deferring the remaing hours from this phase to the adendum in September if that works with you guys as well. That way there is extra time for the forum design to ripen? (If the adendum would be ready for me to start working on it by the second week of September, even better).

jywarren commented 10 years ago

second week of september sounds feasible. I'm going to work a bit on the forum design and mockups so it's more clear, then, and circle back. Thanks, Melissa.

It looks like I have wrapped up all of the listed loose ends for this phase, and pushed those changes to the dev site.

I have deleted all of the accounts there, so you will have to sign up again to poke around.

You will only be shown the tour the first time you log in, but if you want to see it again (while logged in) type in "http://dev.wherewebreathe.org:3000/welcome"

For bugeting, there are 37 unworked hours remaining on the contract.

Thanks!

Melissa
