Matroska Support #227

I was able to get my music collection sorted out and have moved on to my video
collection now. Unfortunately there is not a single solution available anywhere
that deals with tagging Matroska files other than one by one. I would think
that if this is not an unsurmountable project, you could really gain a wide
audience by offering the very first batch mkv tagger.

The three existing "non-remuxing" solutions I've been able to find for single
files are:

mkvpropedit - http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/doc/mkvpropedit.html
This is a command line tool that is very extensive and very quick. I've asked
the author about the possibility of a GUI batch solution, but his reply is that
he dislikes programing anything GUI.

VLC Media Player - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
Haven't tried this myself, but you can apparently edit the title tag from
within the player.

mkvmerge-gui "mmg" -
http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/doc/mkvmerge-gui.html
By using the Header Editor supplied, you can change just about anything easily,
but of course just one at a time. This is what I use by dragging each file to
the header editor window, adjusting or adding a title, then saving and
repeating. (Tedious, but the lesser of the 3 evils in my case)

I'm not sure which tags would be most important to most people, but personally
I'd be ecstatic just being able to edit the title. Allowing for clean and
concise playlist entries and not the long, over informative filenames that my
player uses if there is no title.

Anyway, just wanted to throw it out there in case you might be looking for
something new and shiny that no one else is doing. I personally think it would
be a big hit once the word got out.

Just stumbled across this using Debian/Jessie (puddletag v. 1.0.2) ... is this feature request implemented in the current version (1.0.5)?

keithgg commented 8 years ago

Nope. Not even in the slightest.

Matroska support would still be great ;-)

gunterkoenigsmann commented 6 years ago

Especially as Android accepts the Opus codec only in the Matroska Container.

Looking forward to mkv implementation
