Corsair Fireships: very short range, one stream of fire at a time. Medium to fast movement, so they can catch up to Carracks eventually. Due to faster rate of fire Fireships can melt down other ships (bonus vs ships) making Dromunds vulnerable. However, Carracks being long ranged get a good chance to kill them.
Carracks are archers so can kill at long range before other ships can close in. Standard ships that everything else will be compared to.
Alqualunte are cav archers so they use hit-and-run (due to large attack but short range). Great with micro, but can be beaten by Fireships or Dromunds if not careful.
Dromunds are infantry. Slow but strong attack. Strong armour and HP. Good vs. other ships except massed Carracks.
Corsair Fireships are cavalry. Faster movement and great at close combat, with a quick but weak attack. Can take down other ships provided it gets in range with good health. I.e. good vs. Dromunds, bad vs. Carracks.
Palanrist are scorpions. End-game ship with no upgrades. Bolts pass through lines of ships, so good vs. whole fleets. Can only be taken down with good micro tactics.
Adunaic Warships are catapults/trebs. Like Turtle Ships, fire fast and medium ranged, so not the same as cannon galleon. Similar to Dromund in their anti-ship and anti-building abilities but faster attack and range is compensated by a weaker attack.
