The blog homepage offers limited insight into the type of content users can expect to find. Users rely solely on whatever the most recent blog posts are (only a couple of which are visible above the fold) to infer what kind of content we publish more broadly.
The only way to filter content by topic is to scroll down and click into a large keyword cloud. The cloud is fairly dense and does not highlight the most popular or high-value topics. Analytics show that not many users are filtering posts by tags, likely because the functionality is not made prominent.
Many users arrive to a blog post from search engines or third-party apps and exit after reading. This leads to an incredibly high bounce rate when there are few mechanisms to help guide users to additional content of interest.
Individual blog posts have sidebars which commonly detract from the reading experience.
Author pages don’t include blurbs, missing opportunity to celebrate authors, provide additional insight to readers, and introduce additional search terms for SEO.
Blog theme is minimal and not particularly engaging.
Our call-to-action is not prominent and doesn’t allow users much opportunity to translate their interest in a blog post into additional interaction with our website.

Better purpose the blog homepage to contextualize the content users can expect to find. Blog homepage should be a cumulative learning center.
Subdivide content into visually prominent topic groups to improve browsability and connect similar posts.
Guide users to more content that fits their interest to improve bounce rate.
Highlight popular, high-utility content to capture users attentions on the homepage.
Improve reading experience by adhering to blog design best practices.
Increase visibility of authors.
Create a more visually exciting blog theme that reinforces our brand style and messaging.
Integrate a call to action so interested users can easily identify next steps should they be interested in Pulumi.

design work is complete for now. this project is getting put on hold until Marketing decides they want to move forward with it.

@anita-trimbur @shughes26 I'm wondering if this is something we should meet up in Q2 and decide if this is still an investment we'd like to make?
