I also took a quick look at the Zenodeo API and had two suggestions there. I tried to email punkish@plazi.org, but it bounced. Suggestions as follows:
Just two points on the API, first is I tried the following URL:
https://zenodeo.org/v2/taxa?q=nymphalidae&refreshCache=false&page=1&size=30&facets=false&stats=false
...but it returns an empty array.
