Bad font spacing in superscript

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Render an equation with, say, superscript product -- for example, e^iPi

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Font spacing in superscript is wide, while glyphs are small, making it less 
readable.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
latest, OS/X

Please provide any additional information below.
