strange character #820

when i open emacs, strange character live in the window, like this: strange character enviroment: macos catalina, emacs28.1

Aha! That's due to the line character used for display-fill-column-indicator, see here: https://github.com/purcell/emacs.d/blob/a8f2a45015bd8bca82f90747d40dcb593957ee01/lisp/init-editing-utils.el#L103

Probably the font you're using doesn't have that glyph, and also there's no system-wide fallback font that has it either.

The character is actually very standard, though — has been around since 1993: https://codepoints.net/U+254E
