Modify ACL does not work as it should according to API reference #96

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.share a file (X) with some user (A) or a group (B) and give him modify rights
2.try with that user (A) or some user from a group (B) to change already
existing rights on a shared file (X)
3.try with user (A) or a some user from a group (B) to add rights to some third
user (C) or a group (D)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Users or groups should be able to change (case 2.) or give (case 3.) rights to
a resource that was given to them with modify ACL right, according to API
reference: "Modify ACL lets a user give or take away rights to the resource
from a user or group.", instead an error is produced saying "User in
permissions does not exist".

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
We are using GSS built from source dated 09.03.2011. on CentOS 5 64bit.

Please provide any additional information below.
Question, am I interpreting the modify ACL incorrectly, and if I am, what is it
used for then?

I've tested the steps you've provided above and adding or removing permissions
works fine with the latest version. I've logged in with user B and modified
permissions to a file (owned by user A) to other users such as user C. If the
file has been deleted the error you've mentioned above occurs ("User in
permissions does not exist").Please provide additional information for the case
that the error occurs.

The files that we are sharing do exist so that is not the reason, also the
error does not occur on an earlier version of GSS (30.11.2011.). We will be
updating this GSS instance soon so we hope that will help solve the problem.

Please let us know if the problem persists even after upgrading to the latest
version. I'm closing the bug for now and we will re-open it on your report if
needed.

(remember to check the wiki Changelog page for migrating between releases)
