It'd be great if you could do something sensible with footnotes (sensible =
not just load the footnote page in the display area). I know epub doesn't
have support for footnotes (or didn't, last I checked; it's been a while),
but my suggestion would be: if an outgoing link has the rel="help"
attribute (I'd prefer "note" or so, but "help" is a standard value), the
reference could open in a pop-up -- and if it goes to a particular element
on that page (e.g., div or p with an id), the display could be limited to
just that element (so you can put all the footnotes in a single file and
only see the relevant one)
