Increase loading speed of the galleries #154

The learners and (especially) contributors galleries are slow to load and 
appear to becoming slower over time.

This should be better now, especially with the introduction of the new gallery

I just tested it and all the galleries (old and new) seem to load in about 
5seconds, except for the old learn gallery which is rather faster. That's 
definitely faster than it was when this issue was raised, but can still feel a 
little slow.
