Description

The title of the activity is the name of the activity. This is preferably the formal name of the activity, but does not have to be.

Note: This test has not been modified since the 2016 Aid Transparency Index

Proposed test

IATI 2.0x

Firstly:

For each current activity,
`title/narrative/text()` should be present

Secondly:

For each current activity,
`title/narrative/text()` should have at least 10 characters

Are you intending to check the language used for titles and other descriptions ? We ask our desk-officers to write these in English, French or Spanish, depending on the partnercountry in question, (for multilateral core contributions, i.e. type of aid B02, it doesn't matter whether it's in french or english of course, not to mention that a title hasn't a lot of meaning in these cases). In other words: we don't require them to make descriptions also available in Vietnamese or Lingala, since we expect that English is understood in f.i. South Africa and French in Senegal.

We usually have both an English and a Swedish title. In some cases the title in one of the languages is very short (usually Swedish). @carlelmstam: We accept the longest title, so the activity you linked to would pass the automated test. However, titles should avoid using acronyms so as to be easily understood. So the example you give might not pass manual sampling.

@ToonVB: We were interested in scoring based on recipient country language use, and investigated how widely different languages are used by publishers. However, determining which languages should be accepted was not straightforward, so we didn’t pursue it further.
