What is the problem?

Just upgraded a series of py mods, pyalienlife specifically updated from 2.0.1 to 2.1.5.

Here's what I try to get when I load the old save file with the new version of the mods:

If you load your old save with PyAL 2.1.4 and PyAE 1.2.2, save (to not mess up anything pick a new save slot) and then load the latest save with the latest versions you should be fine.

This worked for me.
