Several of the advanced casting recipes are less efficient than their crafting-based counterparts, especially with productivity. The following are unlocked at chemical science, and are being compared to the technology available at that time, automated factory 2s with prod1 modules for +20% prod. I'm not going to consider the lategame ramifications of t4 machines and prod3s for +120% prod, because pretty much all these recipes are invalidated by that.
To make 1000 iron sticks:
With advanced casting: 560 molten iron, 400 hot air, 24 borax, 8 mold
With crafting: 556 molten iron, 278 hot air, 16.7 borax, 5.5 sand casting
This isn't that substantial of a difference, but it's not trivial, and only gets larger with better productivity. I'd suggest changing this recipe to give 120 sticks without hot air / 150 with hot air, a 20% buff which should balance it somewhat.
To make 1000 pipes (no productivity involved):
With advanced casting: 1316 molten iron, 1316 hot air, 79 borax, 26 advanced casting
With crafting: 1333 molten iron, 667 hot air, 40 borax, 13 advanced casting
While the crafting recipe does consume very slightly less iron, it eats twice as much of everything else, and the more expensive advanced castings instead of sand castings. I'd suggest changing the recipe to take 100 iron and output 80 pipes without hot air / 100 with, halving the demand of other ingredients and decreasing the relative iron usage as well.
To make 1000 bolts (productivity on iron sticks):
With advanced casting: 781 molten iron, 94 borax, 31 advanced casting, 1562 hot air
With crafting: 556 molten iron, 278 hot air, 16.7 borax, 5.5 sand casting
Here, casting is worse even without productivity. I'd suggest changing the recipe to take 50 molten iron and return 120 bolts without hot air / 150 with. This is a quite drastic buff but IMO it's necessary for this recipe to be viable.
This PR on pyalienlife somewhat addresses this, but I'd prefer something a bit more surgical.
