Cleaning up the duplicate versions of pycoproc et. al.

DO NOT squash when merging. Rebase instead. I put in some effort to keep a traceable history

I added one functional change to this PR. Apparently the original v16 version broke GPS :(

I don't want to redo the cleanup and the fix again, so here goes all in one PR
