My os:

os.uname() (sysname='WiPy', nodename='WiPy', release='1.20.0.rc4', version='v1.9.4-1444e48 on 2019-01-07', machine='WiPy with ESP32') Installed yesterday and all seemed to be fine. I installed in order to get support for help('modules') and it worked fine. Today, not so good. Tried to download and run a bluetooth example and got the following error: Ready to download this file,please wait! ..... download ok

Yesterday, it seemed to get stuck in a "awaiting firmware download" state and reset didn't help, I did not have a wire from G23 to gnd. I'm not using an expansion board, using FTDI connection. Guess I'll revert back to a stable release and live with no "help('modules')" command.

An update... Reflashed to 1.18.1.r7 and the os.listdir('/flash') problem still exists. Puts out a slew of lines with \x00's and then finally the list of files in the /flash directory. Could be the directory got "hosed" somehow? I'm thinking that I ought to do an erase, but not sure if there might be something else you could suggest. Will await a reply before I resort to wiping the flash.

Yes, the file system is corrupt. As part of the firmware updater, you have the option to erase the module. You might have to enable the advanced options. After that, everything should be fine again.

Reloaded 1.18.1.r7 and selected erase flash and all seems to be better now; but I wonder what/how the filesystem got corrupted? Was it 1.20.0.rc4? Or, was it something else? I had been running with 1.18.1.r7 for some time (several days, anyway) without any problems, so it is pointing to ...rc4 to me?

It's a checkbox in the pycom upgrade on the third page. "Show advanced settings" And the you have a "Erase during update" on the Advanced Setting Page

It might be. The memory layout is somewhat different. Loading 1.20.0.rc4 with erasing the file system should be stable to. I am using that for a while without such issues. I'm building the firmware images myself and select LittleFS as file system. So I have to rebuild that anyhow when alternating between the versions.

OK, thanks. My Pycom Upgrade tools is at 1.15.1(stable) and it doesn't have any "show advanced settings" but it does have a checkbox (Erase flash file system) which I checked for my most recent firmware upload which is 1.18.1.r7. Perhaps I'll go back to ....rc4 and give it another shot but this time do the "erase" and see what happens. Will report back later.

Used the new updater and tried ...rc4 and erase flash and used vfat fs, but somehow it got hosed again. So, went back to stable 1.18.1.r7 - noticed I didn't have any option regarding the type of filesystem. Anyway, this one seems to be running (for now)...we'll see if it'll last a day!

This has been a while now, but IIRC I was using the FATFS on the board and I generally use AMPY to upload files to my boards (haven’t had any problems with this

utility in the past) and I use it regularly on a variety of boards.
