What version of gnome-mplayer are you using? I am unable to duplicate with SVN.

It is informed at Gnome Mplayer 0.9.7 (svn 1389), now Gnome Mplayer 0.9.7 (svn 
1391)
- all on the former.

It is noticed at Gnome Mplayer 0.9.4-5.

The screen decreases-> decreases more-> decreases even more etc.

You did not mention that this happened when the file details where opened...

Ok, first try at fixing this hit SVN today... it is about a 1000 line change.. 
so
many other things may break at this point... Please join the mailing list to 
discuss
it there. I don't want 30 bug reports over this...
