What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. close all instances of gnome-mplayer
2. mute master channel
3. open media file with gnome-mplayer
4. unmute master channel

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
- expected: gnome-mplayer plays audio component of media
- reality: gnome-mplayer's volume remains muted (although it reports
otherwise), until the application's volume control is adjusted

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
- gnome-mplayer 0.9.8 or r1571
    Mplayer Software Volume Control Enabled
- alsa-lib 1.0.21.a
- alsa-utils 1.0.21
- kernel 2.6.31.3
- arch linux

Try SVN and see if that helps, I don't have a compatible environment setup to
test
this issue.
