Translucent or Black Video #410

After upgrading to Ubuntu Maverick, gnome-mplayer doesn't work properly
anymore. When using XV for video output, the video is just black, but I can
still hear the audio playing in the background. Also, when using GL output, the
video is partially transparent; I can see windows and icons that are beneath
the gnome-mplayer window. This struck me as very odd.
If I drop from compiz into metacity, the GL Video is normal again (although it
seems to have a good deal of tearing), but XV still shows only black.

I don't think this is caused by mplayer, because calling mplayer from
command-line renders properly with both XV and GL.

I think I know what's causing it. Maverick enabled rgba gtk+, and it seems that
the that's what's messing with it. Everything works correctly again when I run
gnome-mplayer with LIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1

Send an email to the gtk app development list to ask for assistance on how to
work around this.

ARGB visuals appear to be disabled in Maverick now.
