no support for stepping through subtitles

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. watch a video with subtitles
2. press Y or G (default keys for this feature in MPlayer)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

expected:
the next or previous subtitle entry is displayed
(MPlayer adjusts subtitle delay so that the corresponding subtitle is visible 
at that moment)

actual:
nothing

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.0.6 on openSUSE Linux, no patches

Please provide any additional information below.
this is a regression, it worked in gnome-mplayer 1.0
i suspect that it has something to do with the gmtk switch?

Support has been added to gmtk SVN, but the changes to gnome-mplayer have not 
been commited yet due to other unfinished changes.
