free font supporting complex scripts are huge
eg FreeSerif.ttf 3.2M
is is possible to narrow each major script type not supported by freesansbold.ttf and at least document/index minimal font supporting them for free ( font license are often confusing for redistribution )
other ideas :
font stripping of unecesssary script before packing ?
use a transparent browser overlay for font display
