Using the new layout for some time I miss the global search. Especially with GLib/Gio where I just remember the class name but am not sure in which module.
The index could load the search indexes of all modules.

Another idea is to use frames to match the devhelp layout. The packages get build in embedded mode like for devhelp and a frame on the left can search all of them and lists the results on the left. This of course sucks for linking to a page.
For making it possible to link to a page we could add markers to the HTML output and inject/replace the needed code after building.
