Audio issues with Sipdroid v1.3.14 on Motorola Milestone #334

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
--------------------------------------
1. Upgrade to Sipdroid v1.3.14
2. Make a outgoing call using the phone keypad for dialing

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
-----------------------------------------------------
1. Hear the ringtone from the far end -> OK
2. When far end picks up the phone, connection established -> OK
3. Receive audio from far end -> OK
4. Send audio to far end -> NONE!

I'm did some different tests and found out the following:
A. When calling to a PSTN/POTS (analogue) fixed line, error occurs
sometimes. Most of the time it works fine on PSTN/POTS.
B. When calling to a ISDN (digital) fixed line, never sound to the far end.
C. When calling to a GSM cell phone, most of the time no sound to far end.

I'm using 12voip.com as SIP provider (a Betamax company)
Every test described under A, B and C with the following CODEC settings
- ulaw & alaw, both try always, all other codecs set to never
- ulaw try always, all other codecs set to never
- alaw try always, all other codecs set to never
I don't detect a difference between this different codec settings.

I'm try also the following mic gain settings:
- Low
- Medium
- High
Not a big difference between this setting. probably the medium setting
gives the highest risk of failures.

What version of the product are you using?
Sipdroid v1.3.14. (Note: since sipdroid v1.3.10 there are sound issues on a
Motorola Milestone. I reverted back to sipdroid v1.3.5 which works fine on
the Milestone)

On what operating system?
-------------------------
Android v2.0.1.

Which SIP server are you using?
-------------------------------
12voip.com (a Betamax company)

What happens with PBXes?
------------------------
Not tested

Which type of network are you using?
------------------------------------
WLAN

Please provide any additional information below.
------------------------------------------------
Device: Motorola Milestone
Kernel version: 2.6.29-omap1rkg683@ca25rhe76#1

I believe this is related to issue 329.

Seems to be the same indeed. But this issue has some aditional information
about the response to cell
phones, ISDN and PTSN landlines. Please also note that sipdroid 1.3.5 works
fine on all calls, so I
believe it must be a sipdroid issue and not a provider issue.

1.3.8 and 1.3.12 also work. 1.3.13 does not. At lest on nexus one.

Problem partly solved with version 1.4

ULAW:
When use the ulaw codec, audio in both directions works fine for analogue and
digital
(GSM/ISDN) lines.
ALAW:
When use the alaw codec, audio form sipdroid to far end will not work when
calling
digital (GSM/ISDN) lines.

Note: I did a test with alaw and change configuration to ulaw. After that, sound
problems are also on ulaw codec. After turn the phone off/on, audio with ulaw
codec
works fine.
