Examples in docstrings not appearing in the API docs #373

Following the theme change, I noticed that the example python code in the docstrings are not showing up in the rendered docs.

I think the issue is using the numpydoc extension, as the docstrings do not use numpydoc format. I'll check and open a PR to fix
