Note: need to think out a fix for RTD, it doesn't check out enough info for git describe. :(

^ RTD build.jobs post_checkout sound like a possible solution to fetch commits up to the latest tag - and maybe also get out of the odd detached head state.

I might not be 100% happy with the everything but decided to merge so we can hopefully get on with conda.
