Moving to pytests.

Updated CI workflow
Modified tests to support parallel runs and some to reduce memory footprint
cleaned up some unneeded files
added testing info to readme

Coverage: 78.86%. Remained the same when pulling 6b878bc951cba3fa950af2b5420c8d23be10a25e on ghactions into aec0e57553d7e41682518138fdd40ada1d83d1d7 on develop.
