Hi @acbart,
We are working to contact the owner to determine if they're reachable and have sent them a courtesy message.
Final determination regarding project ownership will be made by the PyPI Administrators when the research process is complete.

The
cookbook
project was last updated in 2013. The code seems to be from some outdated book and was written for Python 2.6 and 2.7. All the statistics sites say it has basically gone unused since 2014. The external website linked in the documentation is fully gone: https://www.sysbio.mrc-bsu.cam.ac.uk/johns/Cookbook/docs/build/html/Maintenance or replacement?
Replacement
Source code repositories URLs
The original project is at https://github.com/JohnReid/Cookbook
The new project that we are creating is currently named
websites
, which is not allowed on Pypi. This will be a pedagogical Python library for making full-stack websites that are easily unit tested and only require basic Python knowledge. This builds on our existing Bakery project, an open-source Python curriculum.Contact and additional research
I originally emailed the author (John Reid) at the address listed on the Pypi page, which got bounced back to me. After some digging, I was able to find the original owner has left academia but is still involved in the Python development community. However, he does not list the project on his website's list of software projects and the GitHub repository has not been updated in 5 years. I reached out to his new email address, but did not receive a response.
