Reasons for the request

We couldn't find any package with the name ucan and the above link also says Page Not found. Could you please help us whether we can have the name ucan for our package.

We are building a python implementation of https://github.com/ucan-wg/ -- our repo is at https://github.com/fileverse/py-ucan. We have published the package at py-ucan (https://pypi.org/project/py-ucan) but would very much like the name ucan for our package. I am the core developer working on this project.

We couldn't find anything related to ucan on pypi:

pip install ucan
ERROR: Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement ucan (from versions: none)
ERROR: No matching distribution found for ucan

We had gone through https://pypi.org/help/#project-name-claim and couldn't find anything that would cause the name ucan be not available.

After digging more, I found that there exists a user ucan. Is this the reason why I am unable to create a package with the same name?

This is an interesting finding. I also can't use tot and there is a user uses this name. https://github.com/pypi/support/issues/3940
