I can't pinpoint anything that changed since the last time it worked, except maybe ytfzf --update-unstable
try ytfzf --update
to get back to the master branch and see if that fixes it.
you could also try going through the tags and see where it breaks.
I think ytfzf uses ueberzug anyway and not the icat feature of kitty
yes, icat is currently unsupported.
I get the same issue after the update. I also tried several terminal emulators, but same problem. I don't think my ueberzug
install is broken because I tested in another TUI program with no issue.
The problem here is hard to troubleshoot because it only happens in one of my two machines, and once it happens, the device reboots in just a few seconds due to memory leak (it's a LXC container, I suppose the host can't cope with having no memory left).
I dont know how to replicate this but a good solution might be to add a line in the for loop in download_thumbnails that checks if the memory usage is high and then returns out of the function, if you dont know how to do this, I can do this in a bit.
I am not sure how to do this, but I think the issue actually happens after thumbnails are downloaded, when the list of results is displayed.
I tried with quality 0 and 1, but no change. I really am not sure of what changed on my setup since the last time it worked, especially if ueberzug
works in other programs.
If it happens after thumbnails are downloaded, my solution wouldnt work.
The issue suddenly seems to have vanished, without me doing anything (not even running distribution repository updates). I did upgrade ytfzf
to unstable again but I did it already (and tried stable) when you couldn't observe the same thing. I guess something was interacting in a bad way those particular days when I reproduced the bugs multiple times, but not sure what. Probably best to close the issue for now if you guys agree, and I'll comment here if I ever obseve it again or find something new.
Since a couple days, with the unstable version, I'm observing a huge memory leak with
ytfzf
when it downloads thumbnails. I observe this in a Debian LXC container and the leak is big enough to crash the container and make the host reboot (it has 6GB of RAM). I useytfzf
inkitty
, but I thinkytfzf
usesueberzug
anyway and not theicat
feature ofkitty
(at least it's what is set in my config). My assumption is it is related to thumbnails because the search itself works fine, and I can see the memory use accumulating before the thumbnails are shown (the container freezes before they appear).
I'm not exactly sure how to reproduce that because, on a Solus machine with the same configuration file, and using
kitty
too with the same configuration, I do not observe the same issue. It may very well be an issue with something else in my Debian container that just interacts withytfzf
thumbnails. The version ofkitty
is a bit older on the LXC container than on Solus because of Debian repositories, butytfzf
used to work just fine with on that container. I can't pinpoint anything that changed since the last time it worked, except maybeytfzf --update-unstable
