python24 does not work eg on RHEL5

python26 appears to be fine together with my previous pull

Coverage remained the same at 24.667% when pulling 8639a8218fe90d49ac183c0a348b4df0a37c233a on bhepple:patch-2 into 56d0cd10110d9000b7a8d6f9b970066f24be11d7 on python-diamond:master.
