Improve website SEO

Meta tags and og tags are important for our website seo and used when we share website link to any of the social media like twitter, facebook etc.

• [x] update seo tags and json ld data (if required)
• [x] Make navigation links SEO accessible

Not yet, I am yet to validate all things on google search console. It will be available once the analytics is integrated, just waiting on couple of validations.

I will update here once done.

There is a blocker on this issue where google search console is not able to index the pages. Due to which the pages are not surfacing on google search. Pending with this step: Check in google search console for crawling actions

After some research I found out that the nginx server configuration has blocked all bot/crawlers to index the site. I think the indexing didnt work for earlier sites as well. We are discussing this issue in our zulip Tech WG.

As an update, I want to share attempts made and progress regarding same. This should help future maintainers and future developers who will be dealing with the same issue.

Changes made:

• [x] Update nginx.conf to disable blocking of crawler and googlebot
• [x] Create robots.txt and sitemaps as part of build cycle for /2023 subpath.
• [x] Submitted Indexing requests, sitemaps to google search console for inspection
• [x] Included JSON+LD schema for website.

Progress:

• [x] Able to see few results in google search PyCon India root page
• [x] Able to see FAQ and page results for few of the pages
• [x] Latest indexing report is able to Index pages with some exceptions.

Open Issues:

• [ ] All pages are not indexed
• [ ] Not able to see schema on search results.

I will keep this issue open for reference. I hope the details helped.

Able to see the fix working for 2024 edition, the seo is better than python.org events page.
