Caltech datasets downloading fails in Google Collab #8269

Closed DesuDesu1 closed 8 months ago

DesuDesu1 commented 8 months ago

🐛 Describe the bug

Trying to download Caltech256 dataset, but it gives me an error (Same happens when i'm trying to download Caltech101)

The code to reproduce import torch import torch.nn as nn import torch.optim as optim from torchvision import datasets, transforms from torch.utils.data import DataLoader import os transform = transforms.Compose([ transforms.Grayscale(), transforms.ToTensor(), ]) train_dataset = datasets.Caltech256(root='./data', download=True, transform=transform)

This code gives me an error: /usr/local/lib/python3.10/dist-packages/torchvision/datasets/utils.py:260: UserWarning: We detected some HTML elements in the downloaded file. This most likely means that the download triggered an unhandled API response by GDrive. Please report this to torchvision at https://github.com/pytorch/vision/issues including the response:

256_ObjectCategories.tar (1.1G) is too large for Google to scan for viruses. Would you still like to download this file?

warnings.warn( RuntimeError: The MD5 checksum of the download file ./data/caltech256/256_ObjectCategories.tar does not match the one on record. Please delete the file and try again. If the issue persists, please report this to torchvision at https://github.com/pytorch/vision/issues.

Thank you for the report @DesuDesu1 . This is the same issue as in https://github.com/pytorch/vision/issues/8204#issuecomment-1935737815 so I'll close this one. Please see my message there for the recommended temporary fix and the future plan. Thank you

Hi @DesuDesu1 , torchvision 0.17.1 is out and the download util should now be fixed. For it to work, you'll need to pip install gdown
