Update docs and fix installation on OSX 10.9 #55

This adds an introduction and links to the github repository in the sphinx index page. This also fixes installation on OSX 10.9+. I copied the solution pandas used here: https://github.com/pandas-dev/pandas/pull/24274/files#diff-2eeaed663bd0d25b7e608891384b7298R447

Ugh that's what I get for trying to use pycharm to make a PR. Branch was supposed to be on my fork.
