these are 10x10 loading previews. they do not have to be very accurate. or come from a high fidelity source. but they block up a lot of loading time. They are still useful, as images can be mentally grouped as opposed to just white loading boxes.
but these are of limited use and such low fidelity we need to lower the time to create. its costing more time than its worth. ideally they wouldn't even take up darktable time.
[x] generate from larger jpgs if they exist
[x] generate from embedded jpg data if it exists
[x] use a fast (even if low qual) image resizer. bonus points if it can be highly parallel
