Ahah i wondered it myself! I guess it's because most of the content is en_US rather than en_UK but you want to display an english flag to the users rather than an american. Legacy of the crown ;)
yeah @herrvigg so the question is should we follow this "legacy" which is really inconsistent or should we do the right thing and set the correct example...
I wouldn't change it, the default settings looks good to me. On the world scale it's more natural for the users to look for an english flag. But statistically speaking most of the text is in en_US compared to en_UK. It's up to the WP admin to change these settings for specific needs.
After using qTranslateX for many many years, this just popped into my head... Shouldn't the flag be US flag if the locale is en_US or if the flag is UK, shouldn't the locale be en_UK just to keep things consistent?
This is the default setting after all 🤣
