And how do you imagine it could work?
I understand why you would perhaps want this. But if this is implemented I wish its an option to enable and disable for the user.
This sounds a bit like everlasting "changing the software to fit the workflow" vs "changing the workflow to fit the software"
The way I look at the categories today is that it is a filter of what torrents you want to find/view. Is it good GUI to change the filters you have activated just because you update one torrent? Lets say you have several old torrents you want to activate. With this feature you need to go back and forth for each one. Should this also affect search filters? So for example if you are correcting spelling mistakes in torrents, or updating artist if the name changes. Should all those filters also change to not lose the focus of the torrent?
What category do you want to "follow" it into? What if its in several, like "all", "downloading", "resumed", "active"? If the torrent selected is stalling, should you automatically follow it into the stalled category?
Another way to perhaps do this is to not lose focus of that torrent even if it doesn't fit in in your current filters. Since you havent selected any other torrent. Instead of automatically choosing the top torrent, or the "next in line". Since thats what happens when you press somewhere not on a torrent. So IMO, not losing focus is a better solution than "following" a torrent. And/or not have the torrent change status until you deselect it, so you still have the right click menu available.
Or a 3rd option is to have a category "recently changed/updated", to easier find the torrents you did a change on and then "disappeared".
I can say that I agree with this original poster's request to some degree. For instance, when I am using qbittorrent 4.5.4 on Windows 11 x64, and I select the Paused section, I'm working on a paused torrent. When I deselect everything, my selected torrent disappears out of the Paused section but I can find it in the All section. Then, when I select the Paused section again, I see my torrent there again, but why not keep it there while it is being checked, because it's still being checked and it's paused. Otherwise, I have to go fishing for it in the All section, just to see that it is still Paused.
Suggestion
Example:
I am downloading a torrent containing ten files.
Initially, I only selected three files for download, and this download completed, resulting in the torrent moving from the Downloading folder to the Seeding folder. After some time, the torrent then moved to the Completed folder.
Later, I decide I want to download one of the other seven files that I did not download originally. So, in the UI I select the torrent from the Completed folder, and then in the bottom window pane, in the Content tab, I put a checkmark next to a file I want to start downloading.
The torrent then immediately jumps from the Completed folder to the Downloading folder, but in that process I lose the torrent in the UI.
What I mean by that is that, even though the torrent was selected, it just disappears from my window when it jumps to a new folder and now I have to hunt for it in the Downloading folder.
In my opinion, the UI should "follow" the currently selected torrent, even when it changes from one folder to another.
The current behavior is particularly annoying when I want to, say, select five new files for downloading from an inactive torrent. When I select the first file, the torrent jumps to Downloading. Then I have to hunt down the torrent and reselect it in order to select the other four files that I want to download.
