You should try v5.0.0rc1 or wait for v5.0.0 to be released, then you get automatic dark mode without a need to use 3rd party themes and no need to use any other workaround.
If you wish to force qBittorrent to run with dark background on Windows OS using older qBittorrent version than v5.0.0+, then steps to try have already mentioned multiple times.
As mentioned, I am already using a dark UI theme. The white background is presented by the application window before the UI has time to load.
Even if technically my instance of qBittorrent is in "light mode", it would be much better to make that background black for light mode, because the whole area gets overdrawn by the UI anyways. So it's not much work for a better default that works well for both modes.
A full screen of #FFFFFF in dark mode is painful, a full screen of #000000 in light mode is not.

Just updated to v5.0.0, how do you turn off automatic dark mode?

How do you turn off automatic dark mode?
There's no built-in option to turn off.
If you want to force qBittorrent to open with light theme instead of automatic OS system native, then currently the easiest workaround is to use a custom UI theme file. Unfortunately lot of theme files are currently not fully compatible with qBittorrent v5.0.0 and other workarounds are too complicated.
If you or anyone else have any other questions or suggestions instead what's mentioned in the very beginning of this issue report, then those should be discussed elsewhere instead of continuing to stay too much off-topic.
qBittorrent & operating system versions
qBittorrent 4.6.7 x64 OS Windows 10 Pro latest
What is the problem?
I use dark mode. When working at night, this is pretty important. I also use a UI theme that has a dark / black background. When I minimize qBittorrent, and then click on the icon to bring it up again, the window is fully white until the UI loads. This results in a flash that is so bright it becomes very uncomfortable and I have to hold my hand in front of my eyes. If this were black instead it would be much better.
