Network interface changes 5.0/5.0.1 #21719

qBittorrent & operating system versions

qbittorrent: 5.0 qbittorrent: 5.0.1 Operating System: Windows 11 23H2

What is the problem?

The Network Interface does not stay set to the connection I choose. After a restart it goes back to the Any interface which prevents my qBittorrent from connecting through the VPN. This was not an issue in 4.6.7 which I have returned to for now.

Steps to reproduce

Set qBittorrent Network Interface to the interface you require - "wgpia0" for me, which is the interface from Private Internet Access Restart the computer See that the Network interface is back to Any Interface

I use BootRacer to make sure that qBittorrent loads last allowing the PIA VPN software to fully load as it is the first thing in the loading order.

Log(s) & preferences file(s)

qbittorrent.log watched_folders.json qBittorrent.ini.txt

You are using a theme, it should be mentioned!!! Delete the theme and everything will be fine.

Not a duplicate, my issue is the Network interface is not staying set. I was just pointing out the view was a mess. I removed the Theme which corrected the menu, but after a restart the Network interface still reset back to Any interface.

Then you'll obviously need to provide more details and additional steps to reproduce.

Not sure what else I can provide. I already put in the steps that reproduce it for me. I shared the log which has nothing in it, the preferences and the watched_forlders. It stays on "wgpia0" when using 4.6.7 but switches to "Any interface" after a system reboot when I have 5.0 or 5.0.1 installed.

Set qBittorrent Network Interface to the interface you require - in my case "wgpia0" Restart the computer See that the Network interface is back to "Any Interface"

Steps to ensure a good bug report

I was just pointing out the view was a mess.

Then you should edit your issue title and opening post to only include info about a single issue.

Custom theme file issues should be reported to the theme author.

I already put in the steps that reproduce it for me.

Ideally good issue reports include more steps, so others could quickly reproduce on their own computer instead of expecting other's to ask or guess everything.

You didn't include in the steps how others could even get wgpia0 shown, I mean some users have different choices with not exactly identical interface names as you.

Not sure what else I can provide.

You have set qBittorrent to run automatically with the system?

If yes, then what interface option is shown to be saved in the preferences file and in the UI before and after if you do a restart and manually reopen qBittorrent instead of allowing it to run automatically?

Also are you are sure that qBittorrent saves settings correctly, but v5 just shows wrong in the UI?

Maybe interface you selected before wasn't available yet before opening qBittorrent, which could be the reason why it gets reset to default. Although you mentioned as if v4.6.7 doesn't have this issue?

I have updated the original post, removing the UI issue and adding more information about the Network interface.

4.6.7 has worked flawlessly for me, I tried 5.0 when it was released and I had the issue right away, so I reverted back. Now that 5.0.1 was released I thought I would try it and ran into the same issue. This time I thought I would create a bug report since it did not seem to be reported previously. I am pretty sure I am not the only person that uses PIA VPN.

My workaround Auto Start VPN (my case Proton) Delayed start of qB (1min) then no problem for me
