"Zombie" torrents: Removed torrents randomly appear after a restart #7988

Closed nick-s-b closed 4 years ago

nick-s-b commented 6 years ago

Please provide the following information

qBittorrent version and Operating System

4.0.2 GNU/Linux

If on linux, libtorrent and Qt version

1.1.5.0 5.9.3

What is the problem

After I remove some torrents and later on quit qB, some of them will reappear and begin to download all over again upon a restart.

What is the expected behavior

Removed torrents should remain removed.

Steps to reproduce

It's random and not really reproducible. Add some torrents, let them finish, remove them, restart... some of them will reappear.

I've also noticed this on Windows. Removed 3 torrents and 2 came back after relaunching. I then removed both of them and 1 came back after relaunching. After removing the final one and relaunching, none came back.

zpoison commented 6 years ago

Same here, it happens a lot actually.

nick-s-b commented 6 years ago

@DerekZiemba @zpoison thanks for confirming! I've noticed that there's a smaller chance of torrents re-appearing if you first pause them and then remove them. But some will still come back.. but not as often.

Anyway, this is not as annoying bug as some of the others but it's still bad.

Windows 8.1 / qbt 4.0.4 Same problem. I have ~1400 torrents and add/delete them often, it's very annoying. Problem is kinda random, I'll try to reproduce it and post more info.

Btw, what should I check? After I delete torrent from list qbt should remove .torrent and .fastresume files from BT_backup folder and that's all? Or they can ressurect from some other cache file or something?

twinysam commented 6 years ago

This continues to happen. qBittorrent 4.1.1 - Windows 7. It's not random for me, everytime I delete a file (on the OS) that I torrented , whenever I open qBittorrent it starts torrenting it back. Evidently it's checking all files on start and when it notices a torrent is incomplete, it "resumes" download. It should automatically mark torrents that have already been completed and then keep it from trying to torrent them even if a file is missing.

This issue has been closed and locked for being too old, and thus either most likely resolved in recent versions or no longer applicable. If you experience the reported problem or similar in the latest version, please open a new issue report with the requested information in the issue template.

A new issue report with relevant updated data gathered from the latest version is preferable to necroing an old report with a comment like "still happens in version x.y.z", even if you think the bug is the same, or suspect of a regression. Due to the changes made to the qBittorrent code and its dependencies over time, the exact cause of your problem could be totally different than the original one, despite the visible symptoms of the bug being similar. Thus, providing relevant updated information is crucial to find and fix the root cause of a recurrent problem or regression.

Thank you for your contributions.
