Open Office Calc xls format, removes blank fields shifts left

I used Apache OpenOffice - Calc to edit a downloaded excel sheet/file which included blank fields. Saved the edits maintaining the xls format. When opened in Data Curator (Open excel sheet...), it has treated the blank fields in each row as though the fields are not there, including the header row. Data Curator shifts left the remainder of field values of the row.

This is the summary of my observations.

• Saving as excel sheet In MS Excel and opening in Data Curator : OK
• Saving as excel sheet In OpenOffice and opening in Data Curator : problem
• Saving as excel sheet in OpenOffice and opening in MS Excel : OK
• Saving a csv file In MS Excel and opening in Data Curator : OK
• Saving a csv file In OpenOffice and opening in Data Curator : OK

Expected - When opening an excel sheet in Data Curator, all blank fields are respected and the table format maintained.

Not an urgent issue for our use case. This was only testing on a non-corporate managed PC.

• Data Curator version: 1.2.4-beta
• Operating System and version: Windows 10 Pro v1903
• Apache OpenOffice 4.1.7
