Help: Getting TCP timeouts with http proxy #396

Host OS (approximate answer is fine too): Raspberry Pi OS Lite (previously raspbian)

CPU arch or device name: Raspberry Pi 3B+

What's the problem 🤔

Hi ! Not new to dockers but can't say that I'm fluent in them. I'm trying for a bit now to connect a BitTorrent client via the http proxy, but i'm getting a tcp timeout. I'm wondering if I'm missing something obvious or if I could get someone's help. I'm guessing it's something to do with subnets, but can't find how to make it work. Thanks

I think your Docker setup is good.

I'll assume http://*** is http://something.com. Please try from a terminal:

docker exec -it gluetun wget -qO- http://something.com

Does this output something or fail? Maybe that particular http server is down? 🤔

Thanks, I've just tried it. It returns a success from the terminal.

It's a tracker request. http://tracker.***.com:80/announce...

If I run the service through network_mode: "container:gluetun" the requests are successful, but if I try to run them via the proxy I get the error.

Ah cool, it must be an error on the gluetun http proxy code then. It handles https correctly but probably doesn't with http. I'll fix it and get back to you.

I tried accessing http://www.wikidot.com/ (over http) and it works for me, so not a problem with the HTTP proxy so far.

Please try

docker pull qmcgaw/gluetun

(fixed reading the password and log environment variables for the proxy)

And then run gluetun with -e HTTPPROXY_LOG=on; what are the logs for you?

Alternatively, email me your tracker http address so I can test it?

Hey @jroubi I think https://github.com/qdm12/gluetun/commit/bdc88176725690d3e9b2ec5130d91068a1fca83f should had fixed the http tracker issue with the redirection over http.

Have a go with :latest or v3.15.0 or higher?

Hey @pratikbalar sorry for the long delay. I'm now looking into this.

Are you sure the URL is just not valid? I tried to access without vpn http://tracker1.itzmx.com:8080/announce?info_hash=%f3%92%e2%fa%5b%ee%eb%2b%00%e32p%17%b1%98%d2%c1-%df%94&peer_id=-qB4370-8Yn(pb6ig2YD&port=1&uploaded=0&downloaded=0&left=1201248145&corrupt=0&key=5E48EDE5&event=started&numwant=200&compact=1&no_peer_id=1&supportcrypto=1&redundant=0 and it hangs (hence the timeout).

Even http://tracker1.itzmx.com hangs, maybe the tracker is just dead?
