Or is the point of the ticket to WRITE a bunch of useful background shaders?
(If so, it should be a
lower priority.)

This seems to be replicated. We have another background ticket with a long
conversation. I
would just nuke this one. Or am I missing something?

We could leave this around for the eventual implementation of a true background
shader class
(instead of re-using surface).
