Add an Install QGIS section as reference #3873

_This is part of a series of issue reports inspired by Jared Morgan review of QGIS training manual in prelude of Osgeo participation to GSOD_

QGIS training manual assumes that people have already installed QGIS but there's no clear instructions on how to do it at a single place for all platforms. Windows? macOS? Even https://qgis.org/fr/site/forusers/alldownloads.html looks incomplete.

Could be nice to have a reference page for beginners either in the training manual or the main website (would be my preferred option).

I'm interested in progressing this, I am also on the GSOD mailing list so I can liaise with the doc writers there to check for suitable language, workflow, etc for the beginner audience. Would it be okay to add this section to the training material as a starting point and then look at the website addition later on?

Hi @Drewfore Thanks for offering help.

Would it be okay to add this section to the training material as a starting point and then look at the website addition later on?

I'd say yes. I think the most sustainable way would be to add it at a place and point to that link from the other place(s). So a single place to maintain (reason why my first preference went to the website, as first place users meet the package) but I don't know what other projects do and in all cases, we need to "build" the contents.

Just stumbled across this section. Should this item be updating this content?

@Drewfore that's the link I mentioned in my initial message  . Looking to your Gdocs and knowing that there are other scenarios (osgeo4w, macos), I wonder if that page would be the good candidate for these or whether we should have an install dedicated page. The page with screenshots will be long. The "all downloads" page would then be about versions available per OS (and maybe install instructions when it's two lines -- or not)
